Ashley Bear Dr. Ashley Bear is a Program Officer with the Board on Higher Education and Workforce at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. In this capacity, Dr. Bear manages a portfolio of projects dealing with critical issues in higher education. She is currently the study director for a National Academies consensus study tasked with examining the evidence behind the assertion that programs that mutually integrate the humanities and arts with science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine lead to improved educational and career outcomes for students. In this capacity, she works with the study chair, David Skorton, the Secretary of the Smithsonian, to lead a committee of scholars, administrators, and industry leaders with expertise in the humanities, arts, sciences, engineering, and medicine to identify and evaluate the existing evidence and develop recommendations for stakeholders.
